The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would step down from the pulpit, and if a man approached him to speak with him, the Prophet ﷺ would stand with him until his need was met. Then he would proceed to his place of prayer and pray.
أخبرني محمد بن علي بن ميمون قال حدثنا الفريابي قال حدثنا جرير بن حازم عن ثابت البناني
كان رسول الله ﷺ ينزل عن المنبر فيعرض له الرجل فيكلمه فيقوم معه النبي ﷺ حتى يقضي حاجته ثم يتقدم إلى مصلاه فيصلي
[Daif] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Prayer, chapter on the imam speaking after descending from the pulpit, no. 1120, and Tirmidhi narrated it, no. 517, and Ibn Majah narrated it, no. 1117, all from the hadith of Jareer bin Hazim through this route. He explicitly stated that he heard it directly, as recorded by Bayhaqi, 3/224, and it is also found in Kubra, no. 1732. Iraqi leaned toward declaring it sahih, but Bukhari, Abu Dawud, and others declared it daif, and their view is the correct one. It has a daif corroborating narration.
