The Prophet ﷺ went out to relieve himself. When he returned, I met him with a water vessel and poured for him. He washed his hands, then his face, then he went to wash his forearms, but the sleeves of his cloak were too tight. So he pulled his arms out from underneath the cloak and washed them, then he wiped over his leather socks and led us in prayer.
Recorded by Muslim, Purification, Chapter on Wiping Over the Socks, hadith 274, from Ali bin Khashram, and Bukhari, Prayer, Chapter on Praying in the Syrian Cloak, hadith 363, from the hadith of Amash, with the same wording. His saying "with us" is a mistake, because the Messenger ﷺ was following Abdul-Rahman bin Awf in prayer. Perhaps this mistake came from the tadlis of Amash, and Allah knows best.
