He performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks. Someone said to him, "Are you wiping?" He replied, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wipe."The companions of Abdullah were pleased with the report of Jareer, since Jareer had embraced Islam shortly before the death of the Prophet ﷺ.
أخبرنا قتيبة قال حدثنا حفص عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم عن همام
أنه توضأ ومسح على خفيه فقيل له أتمسح فقال قد رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يمسح وكان أصحاب عبد الله يعجبهم قول جرير وكان إسلام جرير قبل موت النبي ﷺ بيسير
Bukhari narrated it, in the Book of Prayer, Chapter on Praying in Leather Socks, hadith no. 387, and Muslim, in the Book of Purification, Chapter on Wiping over the Leather Socks, hadith no. 272, from the hadith of Amash by this same chain, and it is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 121.
