The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite in the night prayer surahs such as "By the Sun and its Brightness" and others like it.
أخبرنا محمد بن علي بن الحسن بن شقيق قال حدثنا أبي قال أنبأنا الحسين بن واقد
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يقرأ في صلاة العشاء الآخرة بالشمس وضحاها وأشباهها من السور
[Its chain is hasan] Tirmidhi transmitted it in the Book of Prayer, the chapter on what has been said about the recitation in the Isha prayer, hadith 309, from the report of Husayn bin Waqid, and he said, "Hasan." It is also found in Kubra, hadith 1071.
