The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque, and a man came in, prayed, then approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and greeted him with peace. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned the greeting and said, "Go back and pray, for you have not prayed."The man returned and prayed as he had prayed before, then came to the Prophet ﷺ and greeted him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "And peace be upon you," then said, "Go back and pray, for you have not prayed."This happened three times, until the man said, "By the One who sent you with the truth, I cannot do better than this. Teach me."He said, "When you stand for prayer, say the takbir, then recite whatever is easy for you from the Quran. Then bow until you are at ease in bowing, then rise until you stand upright, then prostrate until you are at ease in prostration, then rise until you are at ease sitting. Then do this throughout your entire prayer."
9. Both of them (Bukhari and Muslim) transmitted the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed Qattan, from Ubaydullah, from Saeed Maqburi, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, the story of the man who prayed poorly, and the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, "Go back and pray, for you have not prayed."He said, Yahya differed here from all the companions of Ubaydullah, among them Abu Usama, Ubaydullah bin Numayr, Isa bin Yunus, and others, who transmitted it from Ubaydullah, from Saeed, from Abu Hurairah, without mentioning his father. Maamar transmitted it from Ubaydullah, from Saeed, as a mursal report going back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Yahya is a reliable memorizer (hafiz), and it seems likely that Ubaydullah narrated it both ways. And Allah knows best.
