A man said to Umar, "You recite a verse that, had it been revealed to us, we would have taken the day of its revelation as a festival."Umar replied, "I know exactly where it was revealed, on which day it was revealed, and where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was when it came down. It was revealed at Arafah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing at Arafah."Sufyan said, "I am uncertain whether it was a Friday or not." He meant the verse, "This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you" [Maidah 5:3].

إنكم تقرءون آية لو أنزلت فينا لاتخذنا ذلك اليوم عيدا فقال عمر إني لأعلم حيث أنزلت وأي يوم أنزلت وأين رسول الله ﷺ حيث أنزلت أنزلت بعرفة ورسول الله ﷺ واقف بعرفة قال سفيان أشك كان يوم جمعة أم لا يعني {اليوم أكملت لكم دينكم وأتممت عليكم نعمتي}
