Miswar bin Makhrama reported,

Amr bin Awf, who was an ally of the clan of Amir bin Luayy and who had been present at Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Ubayda bin Jarrah to Bahrain to collect its tribute. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had made peace with the people of Bahrain and had appointed Ala bin Hadrami over them. Abu Ubayda arrived with wealth from Bahrain, and when the Ansar heard of his arrival, they turned up for the Fajr prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. After he had finished the prayer and was leaving, they blocked his way. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he saw them. Then he said, "I suppose you have heard that Abu Ubayda has come back with something from Bahrain?"They said, "Yes indeed, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Then rejoice and hope for what will please you. But by Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you. What I fear for you is that this world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those who came before you, so that you compete for it as they competed for it, and it destroys you as it destroyed them."
