I set out intending to join this man, when Abu Bakra met me and said, "Where are you headed, Ahnaf?"I replied, "I want to support Nasr, the cousin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," meaning Ali.He said to me, "Ahnaf, turn back, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'When two Muslims confront one another with their swords, both the killer and the slain are in the Fire.'"I asked, or someone else asked, "Messenger of Allah, this is the killer, but what about the slain?"He answered, "He too had intended to kill his companion."

خرجت وأنا أريد هذا الرجل فلقيني أبو بكرة فقال أين تريد يا أحنف قال قلت أريد نصر ابن عم رسول الله ﷺ يعني عليا قال فقال لي يا أحنف ارجع فإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إذا تواجه المسلمان بسيفيهما فالقاتل والمقتول في النار قال فقلت أو قيل يا رسول الله هذا القاتل فما بال المقتول قال إنه قد أراد قتل صاحبه
