We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he said, "Tell me about a tree that resembles, or is like, the Muslim man, whose leaves do not fall."Ibrahim said, "Perhaps Muslim said, 'and it brings forth its fruit,'" and that is also how I found it reported by others, "but it does not bring forth its fruit at every season."Ibn Umar said, "It occurred to me that it was the date palm, but I saw that Abu Bakr and Umar were not speaking, so I disliked to speak or say anything."Umar said, "For you to have said it would have been more beloved to me than such and such."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا أبو أسامة حدثنا عبيد الله بن عمر عن نافع
كنا عند رسول الله ﷺ فقال أخبروني بشجرة شبه أو كالرجل المسلم لا يتحات ورقها قال إبراهيم لعل مسلما قال وتؤتي أكلها وكذا وجدت عند غيري أيضا ولا تؤتي أكلها كل حين قال ابن عمر فوقع في نفسي أنها النخلة ورأيت أبا بكر وعمر لا يتكلمان فكرهت أن أتكلم أو أقول شيئا فقال عمر لأن تكون قلتها أحب إلي من كذا وكذا
