The Prophet ﷺ set out for Uhud, but some of those who were with him turned back. The companions of the Prophet ﷺ became divided into two groups regarding them. Some said, "Let us kill them," while others said, "No." So the verse was revealed, "What is the matter with you that you are divided into two groups concerning the hypocrites?" [Nisa 4:88].

أن النبي ﷺ خرج إلى أحد فرجع ناس ممن كان معه فكان أصحاب النبي ﷺ فيهم فرقتين قال بعضهم نقتلهم وقال بعضهم لا فنزلت {فما لكم في المنافقين فئتين}
