Abu Saeed Khudri reported,

Muawiya came out to a circle in the mosque and asked, "What has brought you together?"They replied, "We have gathered to remember Allah."He said, "By Allah, is that the only reason you sat down?"They answered, "By Allah, that is the only reason we sat down."He said, "I did not ask you to swear because I suspected you. No one in my position with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has narrated fewer hadith from him than I have. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once came out to a circle of his companions and asked, 'What has brought you together?'They replied, 'We have gathered to remember Allah and praise Him for guiding us to Islam and for His favor upon us.'He asked, 'By Allah, is that the only reason you sat down?'They answered, 'By Allah, that is the only reason we sat down.'He said, 'I did not ask you to swear because I suspected you, but Jibreel came to me and informed me that Allah is boasting of you to the angels.'"

حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا مرحوم بن عبد العزيز عن أبي نعامة السعدي عن أبي عثمان

عن أبي سعيد الخدري قال

خرج معاوية على حلقة في المسجد فقال ما أجلسكم قالوا جلسنا نذكر الله قال آلله ما أجلسكم إلا ذاك قالوا والله ما أجلسنا إلا ذاك قال أما إني لم أستحلفكم تهمة لكم وما كان أحد بمنزلتي من رسول الله ﷺ أقل عنه حديثا مني وإن رسول الله ﷺ خرج على حلقة من أصحابه فقال ما أجلسكم قالوا جلسنا نذكر الله ونحمده على ما هدانا للإسلام ومن به علينا قال آلله ما أجلسكم إلا ذاك قالوا والله ما أجلسنا إلا ذاك قال أما إني لم أستحلفكم تهمة لكم ولكنه أتاني جبريل فأخبرني أن الله عز وجل يباهي بكم الملائكة
