Hammam reported,

Abu Dawud the blind man came in to visit Qatada. When he left, the people said, "This man claims that he met eighteen of those who fought at Badr."Qatada replied, "This fellow used to be a beggar before the great plague, never engaging in any of this nor speaking about it. By Allah, Hasan never narrated to us directly from anyone who fought at Badr, and Saeed bin Musayab never narrated to us directly from anyone who fought at Badr except from Saad bin Malik."

وحدثني حسن بن علي الحلواني، قال حدثنا يزيد بن هارون، أخبرنا

دخل أبو داود الأعمى على قتادة فلما قام قالوا إن هذا يزعم أنه لقي ثمانية عشر بدريا. فقال قتادة هذا كان سائلا قبل الجارف لا يعرض في شىء من هذا ولا يتكلم فيه. فوالله ما حدثنا الحسن عن بدري مشافهة. ولا حدثنا سعيد بن المسيب عن بدري مشافهة إلا عن سعد بن مالك.
