Saad reported that verses of the Quran were revealed concerning him. He said, Umm Saad swore that she would never speak to him again until he renounced his religion, and that she would neither eat nor drink.She said, "You claim that Allah has charged you to treat your parents well. I am your mother, and I command you to do this."He said, She held out for three days, until she fainted from exhaustion. Then a son of hers named Umara got up and gave her something to drink, and she began praying against Saad. So Allah revealed this verse in the Quran, "And We have enjoined upon man goodness toward his parents" [Ankabut 29:8], and "But if they strive to make you associate with Me" [Luqman 31:15], and in it, "yet keep company with them in this world with kindness" [Luqman 31:15].He said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once captured a great quantity of spoils, and among them was a sword. I took it and brought it to the Messenger ﷺ and said, "Award me this sword as a special share, for you know my situation well."He said, "Put it back where you took it from."So I set off, but when I was about to toss it into the collected spoils, I reproached myself, and I went back to him and said, "Give it to me."He raised his voice at me and said, "Put it back where you took it from."Then Allah
revealed, "They ask you about the spoils" [Anfal 8:1].He said, I fell ill and sent word to the Prophet ﷺ, and he came to me. I said, "Let me divide my wealth however I wish."He refused.I said, "Then half."He refused.I said, "Then a third."He remained silent, and after that a third became permissible.He said, I once came upon a group of the Ansar and the Emigrants, and they said, "Come, we will feed you and give you wine to drink." This was before wine was forbidden.He said, So I came to them in an enclosure, and an enclosure is a garden, and there before them was a roasted camel's head and a skin of wine. I ate and drank with them. Then the Ansar and the Emigrants were mentioned in their gathering, and I said, "The Emigrants are better than the Ansar."At that a man seized one of the jawbones of the head and struck me with it, wounding my nose. I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him what had happened, and Allah
revealed concerning him, meaning concerning himself, the matter of wine, "Wine, gambling, idols, and divining arrows are but an abomination, the work of Satan" [Maidah 5:90].
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة وزهير بن حرب قالا حدثنا الحسن بن موسى حدثنا زهير حدثنا سماك بن حرب
أنه نزلت فيه آيات من القرآن قال حلفت أم سعد أن لا تكلمه أبدا حتى يكفر بدينه ولا تأكل ولا تشرب قالت زعمت أن الله وصاك بوالديك وأنا أمك وأنا آمرك بهذا قال مكثت ثلاثا حتى غشي عليها من الجهد فقام ابن لها يقال له عمارة فسقاها فجعلت تدعو على سعد فأنزل الله عز وجل في القرآن هذه الآية {ووصينا الإنسان بوالديه حسنا} {وإن جاهداك على أن تشرك بي} وفيها {وصاحبهما في الدنيا معروفا} قال وأصاب رسول الله ﷺ غنيمة عظيمة فإذا فيها سيف فأخذته فأتيت به الرسول ﷺ فقلت نفلني هذا السيف فأنا من قد علمت حاله فقال رده من حيث أخذته فانطلقت حتى إذا أردت أن ألقيه في القبض لامتني نفسي فرجعت إليه فقلت أعطنيه قال فشد لي صوته رده من حيث أخذته قال فأنزل الله عز وجل {يسألونك عن الأنفال} قال ومرضت فأرسلت إلى النبي ﷺ فأتاني فقلت دعني أقسم مالي حيث شئت قال فأبى قلت فالنصف قال فأبى قلت فالثلث قال فسكت فكان بعد الثلث جائزا قال وأتيت على نفر من الأنصار والمهاجرين فقالوا تعال نطعمك ونسقك خمرا وذلك قبل أن تحرم الخمر قال فأتيتهم في حش والحش البستان فإذا رأس جزور مشوي عندهم وزق من خمر قال فأكلت وشربت معهم قال فذكرت الأنصار والمهاجرين عندهم فقلت المهاجرون خير من الأنصار قال فأخذ رجل أحد لحيي الرأس فضربني به فجرح بأنفي فأتيت رسول الله ﷺ فأخبرته فأنزل الله عز وجل في يعني نفسه شأن الخمر {إنما الخمر والميسر والأنصاب والأزلام رجس من عمل الشيطان}
