Abu Bakr asked permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was lying on his bed wearing Ayesha's cloak. He granted Abu Bakr permission while remaining in that state, and Abu Bakr presented his need to him and then left. Then Umar asked permission to enter, and he granted him permission while still in that same state, and Umar presented his need to him and then left.Uthman said, "Then I asked permission to enter, and he sat up and said to Ayesha, 'Gather your clothes about you.' Then I presented my need to him and left."Ayesha said, "Messenger of Allah, why did I not see you concerned about Abu Bakr and Umar as you were concerned about Uthman?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Uthman is a modest man, and I feared that if I gave him permission to enter while I was in that state, he would not be able to convey his need to me."
Ali bin Madini said, regarding the Musnad of Uthman, that Salih bin Kaysan narrated from Zuhri, from Yahya bin Saeed, from Ayesha and Uthman. But Mamar and Ibn Abu Dhib disagreed with him, making it from Ayesha alone, without mentioning Uthman.
