Ayesha reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was reclining in my house with his thighs, or his shins, uncovered. Abu Bakr asked permission to enter, and he gave him permission while remaining in that state, then they conversed. Then Umar asked permission to enter, and he gave him permission while still in that state, then they conversed. Then Uthman asked permission to enter, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat up and adjusted his clothing. Muhammad said, "I do not say that this happened on a single day." Uthman then entered and they conversed. When he had left, Ayesha said, "Abu Bakr came in and you did not stir for him or pay him special attention. Then Umar came in and you did not stir for him or pay him special attention. Then Uthman came in and you sat up and adjusted your clothing."He replied, "Should I not feel modesty before a man whom even the angels feel modesty before?"
