We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the expedition to Tabuk, and when we reached Wadi al-Qura we came upon a garden belonging to a woman. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Estimate its yield."So we estimated it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ estimated it at ten wasqs. He said to the woman, "Keep count of it until we return to you, if Allah wills."We went on until we arrived at Tabuk, and there the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Tonight a fierce wind will blow against you. None of you should stand up in it, and whoever has a camel should tie its hobble firmly."A fierce wind did blow, and a man stood up in it. The wind carried him off and flung him down at the two mountains of Tayy. The envoy of Ibn Alma, the ruler of Ayla, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a letter and presented him with a white mule. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote back to him and presented him with a cloak. Then we turned back until we reached Wadi al-Qura, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked the woman about her garden and how much fruit it had produced. She said, "Ten wasqs."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "I am going to travel quickly. Whoever wishes may hurry along with me, and whoever wishes may stay behind."We set out and came within sight of Madinah, and he said, "This is Tabah, and this is Uhud, a mountain that loves us and that we love."Then he said, "The best of the houses of the Ansar is the house of Banu Najjar, then the house of Banu Abdul-Ashhal, then the house of Banu Abdul-Harith bin Khazraj, then the house of Banu Saida. Yet there is good in all the houses of the Ansar."Saad bin Ubada caught up with us, and Abu Usayd said to him, "Did you not see that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ranked the houses of the Ansar and placed us last?"So Saad overtook the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, you ranked the houses of the Ansar and placed us last."He replied, "Is it not enough for you that you are among the best?"Another version goes as far as his words, "Yet there is good in all the houses of the Ansar," and does not mention what follows about the story of Saad bin Ubada. In the report of Wahib there is the addition that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote him a guarantee concerning their sea, and the report of Wahib does not mention that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote back to him.
