Sawdah went out after the requirement of veiling had been imposed on her, in order to relieve herself. She was a large woman who towered above other women in build, so she could not be concealed from anyone who knew her. Umar bin Khattab saw her and said, "Sawdah, by Allah, you cannot hide yourself from us, so consider how you go out."Aisha said, "She turned around and came straight back, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in my house, eating his supper with a bone of meat in his hand. She came in and said, 'Messenger of Allah, I went out and Umar said such and such to me.'"Aisha continued, "Revelation then came to him, and when it lifted from him the bone was still in his hand, he had not put it down."He said, "You have been permitted to go out to relieve yourselves."In Abu Bakr's version the wording is, "her body towered above other women." Abu Bakr added in his report that Hisham said, "He means relieving oneself."
