Sawdah went out after the verse of hijab had been revealed concerning her, in order to relieve herself. She was a large woman who towered over other women in build, so she could not be concealed from anyone who knew her. Umar bin Khattab saw her and said, "Sawdah, by Allah, you are not hidden from us. Consider how you go out."She said, "So I turned back and returned, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in my house eating his supper, with a bone in his hand. I came in and said, 'Messenger of Allah, I went out and Umar said such and such to me.'"She said, "Then revelation came to him, and when it was lifted from him the bone was still in his hand, he had not set it down. He said, 'Permission has been given to you women to go out for your needs.'"In Abu Bakr's version, "her build towered over the women." Abu Bakr added in his report that Hisham said, "That is, to relieve herself." He also said, "She was a woman whose build towered over people," and he said, "and he was eating his supper."
