Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

A man among us had a son born to him and named him Muhammad. We said to him, "We will not address you by the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ own title until you ask his permission."So the man went to him and said, "A son has been born to me and I have named him after the Messenger of Allah, but my people refuse to address me by his title until you seek the Prophet's ﷺ permission."He replied, "Name your children with my name, but do not take my title, for I was sent only as a distributor, apportioning among you."He did not mention the words, "for I was sent only as a distributor, apportioning among you."
