One morning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up looking troubled, so Maymuna said, "Messenger of Allah, I have noticed a change in your appearance today."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Jibreel had promised to meet me last night, but he did not come. By Allah, he has never broken a promise to me before."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained in that state throughout the day. Then it occurred to him that there was a puppy under one of our tents. He ordered it to be removed, and then he took some water in his hand and sprinkled it over the spot.When evening came, Jibreel met him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "You had promised to meet me last night."Jibreel replied, "Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image."So that morning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the order to kill dogs, to the point that he ordered the killing of the dog kept in a small garden but spared the dog kept in a large garden.
حدثني حرملة بن يحيى أخبرنا ابن وهب أخبرني يونس عن ابن شهاب عن ابن السباق أن
أن رسول الله ﷺ أصبح يوما واجما فقالت ميمونة يا رسول الله لقد استنكرت هيئتك منذ اليوم قال رسول الله ﷺ إن جبريل كان وعدني أن يلقاني الليلة فلم يلقني أم والله ما أخلفني قال فظل رسول الله ﷺ يومه ذلك على ذلك ثم وقع في نفسه جرو كلب تحت فسطاط لنا فأمر به فأخرج ثم أخذ بيده ماء فنضح مكانه فلما أمسى لقيه جبريل فقال له قد كنت وعدتني أن تلقاني البارحة قال أجل ولكنا لا ندخل بيتا فيه كلب ولا صورة فأصبح رسول الله ﷺ يومئذ فأمر بقتل الكلاب حتى إنه يأمر بقتل كلب الحائط الصغير ويترك كلب الحائط الكبير
