The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me and Muaz to Yemen and said, "Call the people, give them glad tidings, and do not drive them away. Make things easy and do not make them difficult."I said, "Messenger of Allah, give us a ruling about two drinks we used to make in Yemen. One is bitt, made from honey left to ferment until it becomes strong, and the other is mizr, made from millet and barley left to ferment until it becomes strong."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had been granted concise speech with comprehensive meanings, so he said, "I forbid every intoxicant that distracts from prayer."
و حدثنا إسحق بن إبراهيم ومحمد بن أحمد بن أبي خلف واللفظ لابن أبي خلف قالا حدثنا زكرياء بن عدي حدثنا عبيد الله وهو ابن عمرو عن زيد بن أبي أنيسة عن سعيد بن أبي بردة
بعثني رسول الله ﷺ ومعاذا إلى اليمن فقال ادعوا الناس وبشرا ولا تنفرا ويسرا ولا تعسرا قال فقلت يا رسول الله أفتنا في شرابين كنا نصنعهما باليمن البتع وهو من العسل ينبذ حتى يشتد والمزر وهو من الذرة والشعير ينبذ حتى يشتد قال وكان رسول الله ﷺ قد أعطي جوامع الكلم بخواتمه فقال أنهى عن كل مسكر أسكر عن الصلاة
