The Prophet ﷺ sent me along with Muaz bin Jabal to Yemen. I said, "Messenger of Allah, in our land they make a drink called mizr from barley, and a drink called bita from honey."He replied, "Every intoxicant is forbidden."
و حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد وإسحق بن إبراهيم واللفظ لقتيبة قالا حدثنا وكيع عن شعبة عن سعيد بن أبي بردة عن أبيه
بعثني النبي ﷺ أنا ومعاذ بن جبل إلى اليمن فقلت يا رسول الله إن شرابا يصنع بأرضنا يقال له المزر من الشعير وشراب يقال له البتع من العسل فقال كل مسكر حرام
He also reported it from Musa, from Abu Awana, who said, Abdul-Malik narrated to us from Abu Burda, who said, "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent Muaz and Abu Musa, and he said, 'Make things easy and do not make them difficult.'" And it includes the story of apostasy, and how the Quran is to be recited.He said, Haytham bin Jameel differed from this, reporting it from Abu Awana, from Abdul-Malik, from Abu Burda, from his father. Abdul-Hakam followed him in this.Muslim reported Shuba's hadith relying solely on Waki's narration, and Waki is among those who connected the chain, but he narrated it in abridged form. I think that Shuba, when he narrated it in full, would leave it disconnected, and when he abridged it, he would connect it. And Allah knows best.
