His wound had scabbed over and was healing, so he prayed, "O Allah, You know that there is no one I would rather strive against for Your sake than a people who called Your Messenger ﷺ a liar and drove him out. O Allah, if any part of the war with Quraysh remains, keep me alive so I may strive against them for Your sake. O Allah, I think You have brought the fighting between us and them to an end. If You have ended the fighting between us and them, then let this wound burst open, and let my death come through it."The wound burst open at the base of his throat. In the masjid with him was a tent belonging to Banu Ghifar, and the first thing that alarmed them was the blood flowing toward them.They called out, "People of the tent, what is this coming to us from your side?"There was Saad, his wound gushing blood, and he died of it.The narrator said, it burst open that same night and kept flowing until he died. He added in the hadith, that is when the poet said,Saad, Saad of Banu Muadh, what became of Qurayzah and Nadir?By your life, Saad of Banu Muadh, on the morning they were carried away, was the patient one indeed.You left your pot with nothing in it, while the pot of the others was hot and boiling over.The noble Abu Hubab had said, stay where you are, Qaynuqa, and do not march out.They had been a weighty presence in their town, as heavy as the rocks of Maytan.
و حدثنا علي بن الحسين بن سليمان الكوفي حدثنا عبدة عن هشام بهذا الإسناد نحوه غير أنه قال فانفجر من ليلته فما زال يسيل حتى مات وزاد في الحديث قال فذاك حين يقول الشاعر ألا يا سعد سعد بني معاذ فما فعلت قريظة والنضير لعمرك إن سعد بني معاذ غداة تحملوا لهو الصبور تركتم قدركم لا شيء فيها وقدر القوم حامية تفور وقد قال الكريم أبو حباب أقيموا قينقاع ولا تسيروا وقد كانوا ببلدتهم ثقالا كما ثقلت بميطان الصخور
