I saw Abu Dharr wearing a fine garment, and his servant was wearing one just like it. I asked him about this, and he recounted that he had once insulted a man during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, reproaching him about his mother. The man went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned what had happened. The Prophet ﷺ said to Abu Dharr, "You are a man in whom there is still some of the ignorance of pre-Islamic times. They are your brothers and your servants, whom Allah has placed under your authority. Whoever has his brother under his authority should feed him from what he eats and clothe him from what he wears. Do not burden them with what overwhelms them, and if you do burden them, then help them with it."
