We passed by Abu Dharr at Rabadhah, and he was wearing a cloak while his servant boy wore one just like it.We said, "Abu Dharr, if you put the two together it would make a full outfit."He replied, "There were once harsh words between me and one of my brothers, and his mother was a non-Arab. I taunted him about his mother, so he complained about me to the Prophet ﷺ. When I met the Prophet ﷺ, he said, 'Abu Dharr, you are a man in whom there is still something of the days of ignorance.'I said, 'Messenger of Allah, whoever insults men, they insult his father and his mother.'He said, 'Abu Dharr, you are a man in whom there is still something of the days of ignorance. They are your brothers. Allah has placed them under your authority, so feed them from what you eat, clothe them from what you wear, and do not burden them with more than they can bear. If you do burden them, then help them.'"In the report of Zuhayr and Abu Muawiya there is an addition after his words, "you are a man in whom there is still something of the days of ignorance." Abu Dharr said, "I asked, 'Even at my present age, as old as I am?' He said, 'Yes.'" In Abu Muawiya's version it reads, "Yes, even at your present age, as old as you are."In the report of Isa it reads, "If he burdens him with more than he can bear, let him sell him." In Zuhayr's report it reads, "let him help him with it." Abu Muawiya's report contains neither "let him sell him" nor "let him help him," but ends at his words, "and let him not burden him with more than he can bear."
و حدثناه أحمد بن يونس حدثنا زهير ح و حدثنا أبو كريب حدثنا أبو معاوية ح و حدثنا إسحق بن إبراهيم أخبرنا عيسى بن يونس كلهم عن الأعمش بهذا الإسناد وزاد في حديث زهير وأبي معاوية بعد قوله إنك امرؤ فيك جاهلية قال قلت على حال ساعتي من الكبر قال نعم وفي رواية أبي معاوية نعم على حال ساعتك من الكبر وفي حديث عيسى فإن كلفه ما يغلبه فليبعه وفي حديث زهير فليعنه عليه وليس في حديث أبي معاوية فليبعه ولا فليعنه انتهى عند قوله ولا يكلفه ما يغلبه
