"We have not seen the righteous lie about anything more than they lie about hadith."Ibn Abu Attab said, I met Muhammad bin Yahya bin Saeed al-Qattan and asked him about this, and he reported it from his father with the wording, "You will not find the people of virtue lying about anything more than they lie about hadith."Muslim explained that this means falsehood flows onto their tongues without their intending to lie.
وحدثني محمد بن أبي عتاب، قال حدثني عفان،
لم نر الصالحين في شىء أكذب منهم في الحديث. قال ابن أبي عتاب فلقيت أنا محمد بن يحيى بن سعيد القطان، فسألته عنه فقال عن أبيه، لم تر أهل الخير في شىء أكذب منهم في الحديث. قال مسلم يقول يجري الكذب على لسانهم ولا يتعمدون الكذب.
