Ayesha reported,

Aisha reported that she wanted to buy Barirah in order to set her free, but her owners insisted on retaining the right of inheritance over her. She mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Buy her and free her, for the right of inheritance belongs to the one who frees."Some meat was given as a gift to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the people said to the Prophet ﷺ, "This was given to Barirah as charity."He replied, "For her it is charity, and for us it is a gift."She was also given the choice regarding her marriage.Abdul-Rahman said, "Her husband was a free man."Shuba said, "Later I asked him about her husband, and he said, 'I do not know.'"
