Ayesha reported,

Aisha wanted to buy Barirah in order to free her, but the sellers stipulated that they would retain her right of patronage. She mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Buy her and free her, for the right of patronage belongs to the one who frees the slave."Some meat was given as charity to Barirah, and it was presented to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The people said to the Prophet ﷺ, "This was given as charity to Barirah."He replied, "It is charity for her, but a gift for us."She was given the choice regarding her marriage.Abdul-Rahman said, "Her husband was a free man."Shuba said, "I later asked him about her husband, and he said, 'I do not know.'"
