My husband, Abu Amr bin Hafs bin Mughira, sent Ayyash bin Abu Rabia to me with my divorce, and sent along with him five measures of dates and five measures of barley.I said, "Is this all I get for maintenance? And am I not to observe my waiting period in your house?"He replied, "No."She said, "So I put on my clothes and went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."He asked, "How many times has he divorced you?"I said, "Three times."He said, "He has spoken the truth. You are not entitled to maintenance. Observe your waiting period in the house of your cousin Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind and you can take off your outer garment in his presence. When your waiting period is complete, let me know."She said, "Several men proposed to me, among them Muawiya and Abu al-Jahm."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Muawiya is poor and has no wealth, and Abu al-Jahm is harsh with women," or "he beats women," or something similar, "but marry Usama bin Zayd."
و حدثني إسحق بن منصور حدثنا عبد الرحمن عن سفيان عن أبي بكر بن أبي الجهم قال سمعت
أرسل إلي زوجي أبو عمرو بن حفص بن المغيرة عياش بن أبي ربيعة بطلاقي وأرسل معه بخمسة آصع تمر وخمسة آصع شعير فقلت أما لي نفقة إلا هذا ولا أعتد في منزلكم قال لا قالت فشددت علي ثيابي وأتيت رسول الله ﷺ فقال كم طلقك قلت ثلاثا قال صدق ليس لك نفقة اعتدي في بيت ابن عمك ابن أم مكتوم فإنه ضرير البصر تلقي ثوبك عنده فإذا انقضت عدتك فآذنيني قالت فخطبني خطاب منهم معاوية وأبو الجهم فقال النبي ﷺ إن معاوية ترب خفيف الحال وأبو الجهم منه شدة على النساء أو يضرب النساء أو نحو هذا ولكن عليك بأسامة بن زيد
