Ubaydullah bin Ziyad visited Maqil bin Yasar during his illness, and Maqil said to him, "I am going to tell you a hadith that I would not relate to you if I were not on my deathbed. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There is no ruler placed in charge of the affairs of the Muslims who then does not strive for them and give them sincere counsel, except that he will not enter Paradise with them.'"
و حدثنا أبو غسان المسمعي ومحمد بن المثنى وإسحق بن إبراهيم قال إسحق أخبرنا وقال الآخران حدثنا معاذ بن هشام قال حدثني أبي عن قتادة
أن عبيد الله بن زياد عاد معقل بن يسار في مرضه فقال له معقل إني محدثك بحديث لولا أني في الموت لم أحدثك به سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول ما من أمير يلي أمر المسلمين ثم لا يجهد لهم وينصح إلا لم يدخل معهم الجنة
