Tufayl bin Amr al-Dawsi came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, would you like a strong, well-fortified stronghold?" He was referring to a fortress that belonged to the tribe of Daws in the days of pre-Islamic ignorance. The Prophet ﷺ declined the offer, because of what Allah had reserved for the Ansar. When the Prophet ﷺ migrated to Medina, Tufayl bin Amr migrated to join him, and a man from his people migrated with him. They found the climate of Medina disagreeable, and the man fell ill. He became distressed, took some broad arrowheads, and cut his finger joints with them. His hands bled until he died.Tufayl bin Amr later saw him in a dream. He appeared in fine condition, but his hands were covered.Tufayl asked him, "What did your Lord do with you?"He replied, "He forgave me because of my migration to His Prophet ﷺ."Tufayl said, "Why do I see you covering your hands?"He answered, "I was told, 'We will not repair in you what you yourself ruined.'"Tufayl related this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, forgive even his hands."
