Musa bin Nafi reported,

I arrived in Mecca performing tamattu with an umrah, four days before the Day of Tarwiyah. People said, "Your hajj will now become a Meccan one."So I went to Ata bin Abu Rabah and asked him for a ruling. Ata said, "Jabir bin Abdullah al-Ansari told me that he performed hajj with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year he brought sacrificial animals with him. They had entered ihram intending hajj alone.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Release yourselves from your ihram, perform tawaf around the House and between Safa and Marwa, shorten your hair, and remain in a state of ihlal until the Day of Tarwiyah. Then enter ihram for hajj, and make what you came with into an umrah of tamattu.'They said, 'How can we make it an umrah of tamattu when we have already named it as hajj?'He said, 'Do as I command you. Had I not brought the sacrificial animal with me, I would have done exactly as I am commanding you to do. But nothing forbidden in ihram becomes lawful for me until the offering reaches its destination.' So they did as he instructed."

موسى بن نافع قال

قدمت مكة متمتعا بعمرة قبل التروية بأربعة أيام فقال الناس تصير حجتك الآن مكية فدخلت على عطاء بن أبي رباح فاستفتيته فقال عطاء حدثني جابر بن عبد الله الأنصاري رضي الله عنهما أنه حج مع رسول الله ﷺ عام ساق الهدي معه وقد أهلوا بالحج مفردا فقال رسول الله ﷺ أحلوا من إحرامكم فطوفوا بالبيت وبين الصفا والمروة وقصروا وأقيموا حلالا حتى إذا كان يوم التروية فأهلوا بالحج واجعلوا التي قدمتم بها متعة قالوا كيف نجعلها متعة وقد سمينا الحج قال افعلوا ما آمركم به فإني لولا أني سقت الهدي لفعلت مثل الذي أمرتكم به ولكن لا يحل مني حرام {حتى يبلغ الهدي محله} ففعلوا
