Khalid bin Zakwan reported,

I asked Rabi bint Muawiz about the fast of Ashura. She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent his messengers to the villages of the Ansar." She then mentioned a hadith similar to that of Bishr, except that she said, "We would make toys out of dyed wool for them and take them along with us. When they asked for food, we would give them the toy to distract them until they completed their fast."

عن خالد بن ذكوان قال

سألت الربيع بنت معوذ عن صوم عاشوراء قالت بعث رسول الله ﷺ رسله في قرى الأنصار فذكر بمثل حديث بشر غير أنه قال ونصنع لهم اللعبة من العهن فنذهب به معنا فإذا سألونا الطعام أعطيناهم اللعبة تلهيهم حتى يتموا صومهم
