The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent word on the morning of Ashura to the villages of the Ansar surrounding Madinah, "Whoever began the day fasting, let him complete his fast, and whoever began the day not fasting, let him complete the rest of his day."After that, we used to fast on this day and have our young children fast as well, Allah willing. We would go to the mosque and make toys for them out of dyed wool, and whenever one of them cried for food, we would give him the toy until it was time to break the fast.
و حدثني أبو بكر بن نافع العبدي حدثنا بشر بن المفضل بن لاحق حدثنا خالد بن ذكوان
أرسل رسول الله ﷺ غداة عاشوراء إلى قرى الأنصار التي حول المدينة من كان أصبح صائما فليتم صومه ومن كان أصبح مفطرا فليتم بقية يومه فكنا بعد ذلك نصومه ونصوم صبياننا الصغار منهم إن شاء الله ونذهب إلى المسجد فنجعل لهم اللعبة من العهن فإذا بكى أحدهم على الطعام أعطيناها إياه عند الإفطار
