Ibn Abu Mulayka reported,

I wrote to Ibn Abbas asking him to write a book for me, but to keep certain things from me. He said, "A sincere son. I will select matters carefully for him and conceal some things from him."He then called for the judicial rulings of Ali and began copying things from it. Whenever he came across a particular item, he would say, "By Allah, Ali never ruled in this manner, unless he had gone astray."
