Mujahid reported,

Bashir al-Adawi came to Ibn Abbas and began narrating, saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said... The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said..." But Ibn Abbas neither gave permission for his narration nor looked at him.Bashir said, "Ibn Abbas, why is it that I see you not listening to my narration? I narrate to you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and you do not listen."Ibn Abbas replied, "There was a time when, if we heard a man say, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,' our eyes would race toward him and we would lend him our ears. But when people began riding every mount, both the difficult and the easy, we no longer accepted from people except what we recognized."

وحدثني أبو أيوب، سليمان بن عبيد الله الغيلاني حدثنا أبو عامر، - يعني العقدي - حدثنا رباح، عن قيس بن سعد،

عن مجاهد، قال

جاء بشير العدوي إلى ابن عباس فجعل يحدث ويقول قال رسول الله ﷺ قال رسول الله ﷺ فجعل ابن عباس لا يأذن لحديثه ولا ينظر إليه فقال يا ابن عباس ما لي لا أراك تسمع لحديثي أحدثك عن رسول الله ﷺ ولا تسمع فقال ابن عباس إنا كنا مرة إذا سمعنا رجلا يقول قال رسول الله ﷺ ابتدرته أبصارنا وأصغينا إليه بآذاننا فلما ركب الناس الصعب والذلول لم نأخذ من الناس إلا ما نعرف.
