The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died. The people said, "It has been eclipsed because of Ibrahim's death."The Prophet ﷺ then stood and prayed with the people, performing six bowings and four prostrations. He began with the takbir, then recited at length, then bowed for nearly as long as he had stood. Then he raised his head from the bowing and recited again, but shorter than the first recitation, then bowed for nearly as long as he had stood. Then he raised his head from the bowing and recited again, but shorter than the second recitation, then bowed for nearly as long as he had stood. Then he raised his head from the bowing, went down for prostration, and performed two prostrations. Then he stood and performed another three bowings in the same manner, with no bowing except that the one before it was longer than the one after, and his bowing was nearly as long as his prostration.Then he stepped back, and the rows behind him also stepped back, until we reached the end. Abu Bakr said, "Until he reached the women." Then he stepped forward, and the people stepped forward with him, until he stood again in his place. He concluded the prayer at the moment when the sun had returned to its normal state.He then said, "People, the sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah. They are not eclipsed because of the death of anyone."Abu Bakr said, "Because of the death of any human being.""So when you see anything of that, pray until it clears. There is nothing you have been promised that I have not seen in this prayer of mine. Hellfire was brought near, and that was when you saw me step back, fearing that its scorching heat would reach me. I even saw in it the owner of the crooked staff dragging his entrails in the fire. He used to steal from the pilgrims with his crooked staff. If he was noticed, he would say, 'It only got caught on my staff,' and if the owner was distracted, he would make off with it. And I saw in it the woman with the cat, who had tied it up and neither fed it nor let it loose to eat from the creatures of the earth, until it died of hunger. Then Paradise was brought near, and that was when you saw me step forward until I stood in my place. I extended my hand intending to take some of its fruit so that you could look at it, but then it occurred to me not to do so. There is nothing you have been promised that I have not seen in this prayer of mine."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا عبد الله بن نمير ح و حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله بن نمير وتقاربا في اللفظ قال حدثنا أبي حدثنا عبد الملك عن عطاء
انكسفت الشمس في عهد رسول الله ﷺ يوم مات إبراهيم ابن رسول الله ﷺ فقال الناس إنما انكسفت لموت إبراهيم فقام النبي ﷺ فصلى بالناس ست ركعات بأربع سجدات بدأ فكبر ثم قرأ فأطال القراءة ثم ركع نحوا مما قام ثم رفع رأسه من الركوع فقرأ قراءة دون القراءة الأولى ثم ركع نحوا مما قام ثم رفع رأسه من الركوع فقرأ قراءة دون القراءة الثانية ثم ركع نحوا مما قام ثم رفع رأسه من الركوع ثم انحدر بالسجود فسجد سجدتين ثم قام فركع أيضا ثلاث ركعات ليس فيها ركعة إلا التي قبلها أطول من التي بعدها وركوعه نحوا من سجوده ثم تأخر وتأخرت الصفوف خلفه حتى انتهينا وقال أبو بكر حتى انتهى إلى النساء ثم تقدم وتقدم الناس معه حتى قام في مقامه فانصرف حين انصرف وقد آضت الشمس فقال يا أيها الناس إنما الشمس والقمر آيتان من آيات الله وإنهما لا ينكسفان لموت أحد من الناس وقال أبو بكر لموت بشر فإذا رأيتم شيئا من ذلك فصلوا حتى تنجلي ما من شيء توعدونه إلا قد رأيته في صلاتي هذه لقد جيء بالنار وذلكم حين رأيتموني تأخرت مخافة أن يصيبني من لفحها وحتى رأيت فيها صاحب المحجن يجر قصبه في النار كان يسرق الحاج بمحجنه فإن فطن له قال إنما تعلق بمحجني وإن غفل عنه ذهب به وحتى رأيت فيها صاحبة الهرة التي ربطتها فلم تطعمها ولم تدعها تأكل من خشاش الأرض حتى ماتت جوعا ثم جيء بالجنة وذلكم حين رأيتموني تقدمت حتى قمت في مقامي ولقد مددت يدي وأنا أريد أن أتناول من ثمرها لتنظروا إليه ثم بدا لي أن لا أفعل فما من شيء توعدونه إلا قد رأيته في صلاتي هذه
