Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

I spent the night in the house of my aunt Maymunah and stayed awake to observe how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would pray. He got up, relieved himself, then washed his face and his hands, and went back to sleep. Then he rose and went to the waterskin, untied its strap, and poured some water into a basin or bowl, tipping it with his hand. He performed ablution well, neither sparingly nor excessively. Then he stood up to pray.I came and stood beside him on his left side. He took hold of me and placed me on his right side. The prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to a complete total of thirteen rakahs. Then he slept until he was breathing audibly, for we used to know when he was asleep by his breathing. Then he went out to the prayer and prayed, and during his prayer, or his prostration, he was saying, "O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light on my right, light on my left, light in front of me, light behind me, light above me, light beneath me, and grant me light," or he said, "and make me light."
