He said to his muezzin on a rainy day, "When you say, 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,' do not say, 'Come to prayer.' Say instead, 'Pray in your homes.'"It seemed that the people found this strange, so he said, "Are you surprised at this? One who is better than me has done this. The Friday prayer is an obligation, but I disliked sending you out to walk through mud and slippery ground."

لمؤذنه في يوم مطير إذا قلت أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله أشهد أن محمدا رسول الله فلا تقل حي على الصلاة قل صلوا في بيوتكم قال فكأن الناس استنكروا ذاك فقال أتعجبون من ذا قد فعل ذا من هو خير مني إن الجمعة عزمة وإني كرهت أن أخرجكم فتمشوا في الطين والدحض
