I was with the Prophet of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys. We traveled through the night, and as dawn approached, we stopped to rest. Sleep overcame us, and we did not wake until the sun had risen.The first among us to wake was Abu Bakr. We never used to wake the Prophet of Allah ﷺ from his sleep when he slept, but rather we let him wake on his own. Then Umar woke, and he stood near the Prophet of Allah ﷺ and began saying the takbir, raising his voice with it, until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke.When he raised his head and saw that the sun had risen, he said, "Move on." So he led us until the sun had grown bright and white, then he dismounted and led us in the morning prayer.One man kept apart from the group and did not pray with us. When the Prophet ﷺ finished, he said to him, "So-and-so, what kept you from praying with us?"The man replied, "Prophet of Allah, I was in a state of major ritual impurity."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed him to perform tayammum with clean earth, and he prayed.Then he sent me ahead with a small group of riders to search for water, for we were severely thirsty. As we rode along, we suddenly came upon a woman with her legs hanging down between two large water-skins on her camel.We asked her, "Where is the water?"She said, "Far, far away. There is no water for you."We asked, "How far is it from your people to the water?"She replied, "A journey of a day and a night."We said, "Come along to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."She asked, "And what is the Messenger of Allah?"We gave her no choice in the matter and brought her along until we presented her to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He questioned her, and she told him the same thing she had told us, adding that she was a widow with orphan children.He ordered that her water-mount be made to kneel, then he spat into the openings of both water-skins at the top. Then he had her mount sent for, and we drank, all forty thirsty men, until we were satisfied. We filled every water-skin and vessel we had with us, and we washed our companion. Yet we did not give any of it to a camel to drink, and the water-skins were nearly bursting with water.Then he said, "Bring whatever you have." So we gathered for her pieces of bread and dates, and tied them into a bundle for her.He said to her, "Go and feed this to your children, and know that we have not diminished your water at all."When she returned to her people, she said, "I have just met the greatest magician of mankind, or else he is truly a prophet as he claims. His affair was such and such."Through that woman, Allah guided that settlement. She accepted Islam, and they all accepted Islam.
و حدثني أحمد بن سعيد بن صخر الدارمي حدثنا عبيد الله بن عبد المجيد حدثنا سلم بن زرير العطاردي قال سمعت أبا رجاء العطاردي
كنت مع نبي الله ﷺ في مسير له فأدلجنا ليلتنا حتى إذا كان في وجه الصبح عرسنا فغلبتنا أعيننا حتى بزغت الشمس قال فكان أول من استيقظ منا أبو بكر وكنا لا نوقظ نبي الله ﷺ من منامه إذا نام حتى يستيقظ ثم استيقظ عمر فقام عند نبي الله ﷺ فجعل يكبر ويرفع صوته بالتكبير حتى استيقظ رسول الله ﷺ فلما رفع رأسه ورأى الشمس قد بزغت قال ارتحلوا فسار بنا حتى إذا ابيضت الشمس نزل فصلى بنا الغداة فاعتزل رجل من القوم لم يصل معنا فلما انصرف قال له رسول الله ﷺ يا فلان ما منعك أن تصلي معنا قال يا نبي الله أصابتني جنابة فأمره رسول الله ﷺ فتيمم بالصعيد فصلى ثم عجلني في ركب بين يديه نطلب الماء وقد عطشنا عطشا شديدا فبينما نحن نسير إذا نحن بامرأة سادلة رجليها بين مزادتين فقلنا لها أين الماء قالت أيهاه أيهاه لا ماء لكم قلنا فكم بين أهلك وبين الماء قالت مسيرة يوم وليلة قلنا انطلقي إلى رسول الله ﷺ قالت وما رسول الله فلم نملكها من أمرها شيئا حتى انطلقنا بها فاستقبلنا بها رسول الله ﷺ فسألها فأخبرته مثل الذي أخبرتنا وأخبرته أنها موتمة لها صبيان أيتام فأمر براويتها فأنيخت فمج في العزلاوين العلياوين ثم بعث براويتها فشربنا ونحن أربعون رجلا عطاش حتى روينا وملأنا كل قربة معنا وإداوة وغسلنا صاحبنا غير أنا لم نسق بعيرا وهي تكاد تنضرج من الماء يعني المزادتين ثم قال هاتوا ما كان عندكم فجمعنا لها من كسر وتمر وصر لها صرة فقال لها اذهبي فأطعمي هذا عيالك واعلمي أنا لم نرزأ من مائك فلما أتت أهلها قالت لقد لقيت أسحر البشر أو إنه لنبي كما زعم كان من أمره ذيت وذيت فهدى الله ذاك الصرم بتلك المرأة فأسلمت وأسلموا
