When Hajjaj came to Madinah, we asked Jabir bin Abdullah about the prayer times. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray Zuhr at midday, Asr while the sun was still bright, Maghrib when the sun had set, and Isha sometimes he would delay it and sometimes he would hasten it. When he saw that the people had gathered, he would pray it early, and when he saw them slow to assemble, he would delay it. As for the Fajr prayer, they used to pray it," or he said, "the Prophet ﷺ used to pray it, in the darkness before dawn."
