A man broke his fast during Ramadan, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered him to make expiation by freeing a slave, or fasting two consecutive months, or feeding sixty poor people.The man said, "I cannot find the means."Then a basket of dates was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "Take this and give it away in charity."The man said, "Messenger of Allah, I know of no one more in need than myself."At this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed until his eyeteeth showed, and then he said, "Eat it."
حدثني يحيى عن مالك عن ابن شهاب عن حميد بن عبد الرحمن بن عوف
أن رجلا أفطر في رمضان فأمره رسول الله ﷺ أن يكفر بعتق رقبة أو صيام شهرين متتابعين أو إطعام ستين مسكينا فقال لا أجد فأتي رسول الله ﷺ بعرق تمر فقال خذ هذا فتصدق به فقال يا رسول الله ما أجد أحوج مني فضحك رسول الله ﷺ حتى بدت أنيابه ثم قال كله
