My father and I were with Marwan bin Hakam, who was then governor of Madinah, when it was mentioned to him that Abu Hurairah was saying that whoever wakes up in a state of major impurity has broken his fast for that day.Marwan said, "I put you under oath, Abdul-Rahman, that you go to the Mothers of the Believers, Ayesha and Umm Salama, and ask them about this."So Abdul-Rahman went, and I went with him, until we entered upon Ayesha. He greeted her and then said, "Umm Muiminin, we were with Marwan bin Hakam, and it was mentioned to him that Abu Hurairah says that whoever wakes up in a state of major impurity has broken his fast for that day."Ayesha said, "It is not as Abu Hurairah has said. Abdul-Rahman, would you turn away from what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do?"Abdul-Rahman replied, "No, by Allah."Ayesha then said, "I bear witness concerning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he would wake up in a state of major impurity from intercourse, not from a wet dream, and then he would fast that day."He said, We then left and went in to Umm Salama, and he asked her about the same matter, and she said exactly what Ayesha had said.He said, So we left and came to Marwan bin Hakam, and Abdul-Rahman told him what the two of them had said.Marwan said, "I put you under oath, Abu Muhammad, that you ride my mount, which is at the door, and go to Abu Hurairah, for he is on his land at Aqiq, and inform him of this."So Abdul-Rahman rode, and I rode with him, until we reached Abu Hurairah. Abdul-Rahman talked with him for a while and then mentioned the matter to him.Abu Hurairah said to him, "I have no knowledge of that myself. Someone simply reported it to me."
و حدثني عن مالك عن سمي مولى أبي بكر بن عبد الرحمن بن الحارث بن هشام أنه
كنت أنا وأبي عند مروان بن الحكم وهو أمير المدينة فذكر له أن أبا هريرة يقول من أصبح جنبا أفطر ذلك اليوم فقال مروان أقسمت عليك يا عبد الرحمن لتذهبن إلى أمي المؤمنين عائشة وأم سلمة فلتسألنهما عن ذلك فذهب عبد الرحمن وذهبت معه حتى دخلنا على عائشة فسلم عليها ثم قال يا أم المؤمنين إنا كنا عند مروان بن الحكم فذكر له أن أبا هريرة يقول من أصبح جنبا أفطر ذلك اليوم قالت عائشة ليس كما قال أبو هريرة يا عبد الرحمن أترغب عما كان رسول الله ﷺ يصنع فقال عبد الرحمن لا والله قالت عائشة فأشهد على رسول الله ﷺ أنه كان يصبح جنبا من جماع غير احتلام ثم يصوم ذلك اليوم قال ثم خرجنا حتى دخلنا على أم سلمة فسألها عن ذلك فقالت مثل ما قالت عائشة قال فخرجنا حتى جئنا مروان بن الحكم فذكر له عبد الرحمن ما قالتا فقال مروان أقسمت عليك يا أبا محمد لتركبن دابتي فإنها بالباب فلتذهبن إلى أبي هريرة فإنه بأرضه بالعقيق فلتخبرنه ذلك فركب عبد الرحمن وركبت معه حتى أتينا أبا هريرة فتحدث معه عبد الرحمن ساعة ثم ذكر له ذلك فقال له أبو هريرة لا علم لي بذاك إنما أخبرنيه مخبر
