Uthman bin Affan came to the evening prayer and saw that few people were in the masjid, so he lay down at the back of the masjid, waiting for the people to gather in greater numbers. Ibn Abu Amra came to him and sat down beside him, and Uthman asked him who he was.The man told him.Then Uthman asked, "How much of the Quran do you know?"The man told him.Uthman then said to him, "Whoever attends the evening prayer, it is as though he has spent half the night in prayer, and whoever attends the dawn prayer, it is as though he has spent the whole night in prayer."

جاء عثمان بن عفان إلى صلاة العشاء فرأى أهل المسجد قليلا فاضطجع في مؤخر المسجد ينتظر الناس أن يكثروا فأتاه ابن أبي عمرة فجلس إليه فسأله من هو فأخبره فقال ما معك من القرآن فأخبره فقال له عثمان من شهد العشاء فكأنما قام نصف ليلة ومن شهد الصبح فكأنما قام ليلة
