Aslam bin Thalaba reported,

Umar bin Khattab appointed a freedman of his named Hunayy over the protected pasture, and told him, "Hunayy, hold back your hand from the people and beware of the prayer of the wronged, for the prayer of one who has been wronged is answered. Let in the man with a few camels and the man with a few sheep, but keep away from me the livestock of Ibn Affan and Ibn Awf, for if their animals perish they can go back to Madinah, to their crops and their palm trees. But the man with the few camels and the few sheep, if his animals perish, will come to me with his sons and say, 'Commander of the Believers, Commander of the Believers!' Am I then to abandon them? May you have no father! Water and pasture are easier for me to provide than gold and silver.By Allah, they believe I have wronged them. This is their own land and their own water. They fought over it in the days of ignorance and they accepted Islam upon it. By the One in whose hand my soul rests, were it not for the livestock I use to carry men in the cause of Allah, I would not have reserved a single handspan of their land against them."
