Abdullah bin Umar wrote to Abdul-Malik bin Marwan pledging his allegiance to him. He wrote to him,"In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. To the servant of Allah, Abdul-Malik, Commander of the Faithful. Peace be upon you. I praise to you Allah, besides whom there is no god, and I acknowledge to you my obedience and compliance according to the way of Allah and the way of His Messenger, to the extent that I am able."
