The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No misfortune strikes a believer, not even a thorn, without some of his sins being cut away by it, or his sins being expiated by it."Yazid was not certain which of the two words Urwa had used.
و حدثني عن مالك عن يزيد بن خصيفة عن عروة بن الزبير أنه قال
قال رسول الله ﷺ لا يصيب المؤمن من مصيبة حتى الشوكة إلا قص بها أو كفر بها من خطاياه لا يدري يزيد أيهما قال عروة
