Umar bin Khattab was eating bread with clarified butter when he invited a man from the desert people to join him. The man began to eat, wiping up the grease of the dish with his morsel.Umar remarked, "It seems you have gone without fat for some time."The man replied, "By Allah, I have not eaten clarified butter, nor chewed any food with it, for such and such a time."So Umar said, "Then I will not eat clarified butter until the people find life again, from the very first moment they find it."
و حدثني عن مالك
أن عمر بن الخطاب كان يأكل خبزا بسمن فدعا رجلا من أهل البادية فجعل يأكل ويتبع باللقمة وضر الصحفة فقال عمر كأنك مقفر فقال والله ما أكلت سمنا ولا لكت أكلا به منذ كذا وكذا فقال عمر لا آكل السمن حتى يحيا الناس من أول ما يحيون
