A governor appointed by Umar bin Abdul-Aziz arrested a group of men for highway robbery, though they had killed no one. He intended either to cut off their hands or to put them to death, so he wrote to Umar bin Abdul-Aziz about the matter.Umar bin Abdul-Aziz wrote back to him, "You would do better to take the lightest of those courses."
