She reported that Ayesha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, set out for Makkah accompanied by two freedwomen of hers and a boy belonging to the family of Abdullah bin Abu Bakr Siddiq. Ayesha sent along with the two freedwomen an embroidered cloak that had been sewn up inside a piece of green cloth.She said, "The boy took the cloak, unstitched the wrapping, pulled the cloak out, put a piece of felt or a sheepskin in its place, and stitched it up again."When the two freedwomen reached Madinah, they handed the parcel over to its owners. When they unstitched it, they found the felt inside but no cloak. So they spoke to the two women, and the two women spoke to Ayesha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, or wrote to her, and they accused the slave. The slave was questioned about it and confessed, so Ayesha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, gave orders concerning him and his hand was cut off.Ayesha said, "Amputation applies for a quarter of a dinar and above."
و حدثني عن مالك عن عبد الله بن أبي بكر بن حزم
أنها قالت خرجت عائشة زوج النبي ﷺ إلى مكة ومعها مولاتان لها ومعها غلام لبني عبد الله بن أبي بكر الصديق فبعثت مع المولاتين ببرد مرجل قد خيط عليه خرقة خضراء قالت فأخذ الغلام البرد ففتق عنه فاستخرجه وجعل مكانه لبدا أو فروة وخاط عليه فلما قدمت المولاتان المدينة دفعتا ذلك إلى أهله فلما فتقوا عنه وجدوا فيه اللبد ولم يجدوا البرد فكلموا المرأتين فكلمتا عائشة زوج النبي ﷺ أو كتبتا إليها واتهمتا العبد فسئل العبد عن ذلك فاعترف فأمرت به عائشة زوج النبي ﷺ فقطعت يده وقالت عائشة القطع في ربع دينار فصاعدا
